Origins and Significance of Memorial Day
Memorial Day is day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. First observed after the Civil War when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. Originally called Decoration Day; first observed May 30, 1868. The celebration todayremembers all who have died while in military service to the country.
